Course Overview
The University recognises that this requirement calls for a high-level of managerial and professional competence. The BSc (Hons) Engineering Management (Communications Management) presents Royal Corps of Signals Officers who are undertaking the Royal Corps of Signals Troop Commanders Course and for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers on Supervisors courses with an opportunity to enhance their managerial and academic skills within this particular area of operational expertise).
The programme is open to all undertaking these courses and offers students an opportunity to upgrade their academic qualifications and work experience to achieve a degree in Communications Management, a Diploma in Management and Leadership and Chartered Manager Status the highest status that can in achieved in the management profession.

**The price reflects that current or previous serving members of the UK Military are eligible for a Military fees scholarship. In order to qualify for this, you must provide a Statement of Service/Military ID or any other formal evidence of your service with your application pack. The scholarship will be offset at Enrolment, against the tuition fee payments for each academic year of study. Our ELCAS provider number is 1283.

With regards to text books, Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ provides students who enrol with a comprehensive reading list and our extensive library holds either material or virtual versions of the core texts that students are required to read. However, students may prefer to purchase some of these for themselves and will therefore be responsible for this cost.

How You Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ
Students have up to ten hours contact time with their tutors with the remainder being self-directed study. A range of teaching and learning methods are used including using Blackboard which is an online teaching and learning resource. Teaching on the course is through a range of methods such as online sessions, directed reading and videos with an aim to facilitate a community of practice learners.
Flexibility
Flexibility is a key feature of this programme and Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ regulations permit military students to formally interrupt their studies, at no extra cost for a period of up to 24 months in light of Out of Area deployments or other such commitments. In effect students can pause their studies until they are in a position to continue.
Assessments
Assessment methods are designed to help you develop your potential through close working relationships between tutors and individual students, while supporting independent, self-managed learning. You will receive written feedback and a score for summative assessments, with feedback designed to help you develop and improve your work for the next assessment. In-course assessments are normally returned within 15 working days of the submission date. Assessment methods vary by module and may include coursework such as dissertations or essays, written work, portfolio development and presentations.
Entry Requirements
The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ has recognised the high standard of phase one, two and three training received by Royal Signals soldiers through formal accreditation of the first two levels of study of an undergraduate degree programme, in addition through an agreement with the Defence School of Communications Information Systems (DSCIS) the accreditation of additional final-level modules. This allows FofS, FofS (IS), YofS and YofS (EW/EWCM) and TCC students who are undertaking their military training the option to enrol on the BSc (Hons) Engineering Management (Communications Management). Two modules will be completed within your training at Blandford Camp, and you can register with the university to gain a 45-credit transcript for these modules on successful completion.
Within five years of completion students can return to the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ to successfully complete a further three final-level modules (75 credits) to be awarded the BSc (Hons) Engineering Management (Communications Management). Students can complete the Critical Enquiry Skills, Managing Engineering Systems Risk and Independent Research Project modules as described under the modules tab.
Modules
Critical Enquiry Skills
This module aims to equip students the appropriate knowledge and skills to enable them to engage critically with their studies, and the Independent Research Project in particular.
Managing Engineering Systems Risk
This module aims to introduce students to the field of managing engineering systems risk. This consideration takes a systems approach utilising SSM tools alongside Active Network Theory and challenges students to identify and consider their operations and services as (interacting) systems. This deeper dive will seek to look at the tools available to organise and manage such systems. It uses some of the approaches of engineering systems coupled with Performance Management, Health and Safety and Resource Management and requires students to identify how these relate to their own engineering experiences or expectations.
Independent Research Project
The Independent Research Project provides students with the opportunity to apply, integrate, and deepen the knowledge, insights, and skills they have learned throughout the programme of study. The focus of this project should be a real-world issue or a research topic. The format of the final assessment can be negotiated with the student's academic supervisor or programme lead.
